Tutoring online works when the student is doing the thinking, not watching a video of yours. The whiteboard you choose decides how easy that is. Here is what to look for, and how to set up a session that feels like sitting at the same desk.
What a tutor needs from the board
- Sharp text on a phone. Many students join from phones. If the board is sent as a screen share, small writing becomes unreadable. Inkwis sends the board itself, so it stays sharp at any zoom.
- A student who can write. The student should be able to solve the problem on the board — and you should be able to take the pen back.
- Your answers out of sight. Keep the solution next to the question without the student seeing it.
- A recording worth re-watching. Students revise from the lesson, not from memory.
Set up once, reuse every week
Create a board per subject or per student, with a page for each topic. Save a lesson you use often as a template — your private notes come with it, so next week’s version is ready in seconds.
During the session
- Press Present, then Let students join with a code. Your student joins with the code or link — no account needed.
- Explain on the first page. Your private notes sit beside the questions, visible only to you.
- When it’s their turn, they raise a hand and you give control. They work on the board while you watch, and you can draw alongside them.
- Take control back, reveal the worked answer with Reveal next, and move to the next page.
After the session
Press Record at the start and the student gets a replay: the board rebuilt moment by moment with your voice and a transcript. They can scrub to the step they found hard, and ask the replay a question — “how do I find the common denominator?” — to jump straight to it.
What it costs
The canvas is free forever, and the free plan includes six hours of live sessions with recording and replay — enough for several real lessons. Tutors teaching every week usually choose Plus (₹799 a month): unlimited live sessions, up to 100 participants and replays kept for six months. See pricing.
